The first aluminium forged wheels went into production at the Otto Fuchs metal works in the 1960s: the Porsche “Fuchs” wheel rim used up until 1989 production was particularly legendary. The aluminium forged wheels in the new BMW 6 Series and 7 Series were designed by code2design for Fuchs. The concept utilizes the material’s many properties and special forging technique to the full – the use of indentations and an alteration in material thickness significantly reduced weight and increased comfort. Combined with a distinctive appearance, this gave Fuchs significant potential for differentiation from other manufacturers of alloy wheels.
